Starting as an adult, I thought learning to play electric guitar would be more challenging and considered quitting several times. Jeff’s patience and encouragement allowed me to persist, leading to playing lead guitar in several bands. Simply put, you just have to do it.

When I worked with him, I was 37 years old, and it was the first time in my life doing anything musically. He knew I wanted to learn some cool riffs and not be overwhelmed. Jeff listened to my interests, and helped me by teaching me the basics of guitar through scales, chord progressions, etc… but he did so whole also teaching me how to play fun songs he knew I loved like stuff from AC/DC, Van Halen, Eagles and Black Sabbath. Jeff worked with me through my teen years and helped me develop my own style, from learning songs I was interested in all the way through theory, scales, and advanced practice techniques. I've been taking bass guitar lessons with Jeff for the last 15 months, which is enough time to know that I don't want another instructor. I came in with zero knowledge, and he has been incredibly patient as I've worked my way through the basics. He's really good about cheering on my small victories ("Hey, watch me play this ridiculously easy pattern!"). But I think the thing that's most important to me, as an adult with a career and responsibilities, is that he understands that life sometimes gets in the way of practicing. He doesn't nag me like my childhood piano teacher, yet he does encourage me to work through the inevitable frustrating stretches where I don't see my own progress.
